Everyone in the house is sick. And boy does it suuuuck! Brian is getting over his cold, but me and Lachlan got sick at the same time. I can’t sleep because I can’t breathe and my throat is SO DRY which makes it hurt more. MY GOD I’M SO SICK OF THE DRYNESS IN COLORADO, and it’s Lachlan’s first cold.
He’s handling it as well as you’d expect. He actually seems pretty happy when he’s not screaming his little red head off. Poor guy has something leaking from every orifice on his face. I just can’t keep it dry. He also has a cough, but thankfully no fever. I tried using the suction bulb and yuck! It just makes his eyes (and mine) water more. I don’t like doing it, and the thought of a nosefrida makes me wanna gag so I don’t wanna have to get one. We put the humidifier in his room and it actually got up to 40% humidity in there!
That was cause enough for celebration because the air here reminds me of very dry wood shavings that soaks up any drop of moisture. I would totally take frizzy east coast summer hair in exchange for some humidity around here. I literally would stick my head under water and breathe in if it wouldn’t kill me. My lungs feel thirsty.
Anyway, we just got back from his doc because his cough sounded bad and over the weekend he’d scream bloody murder out of nowhere so the on call doctor suspected an ear infection….which was confirmed. So now I’m waiting to pick up his antibiotics at Walgreens.
Of course, it’s when I’m sick that I am constantly thinking, why can’t anyone come up with a cure for the common cold? Yea yea we all know there’s a billion different strains so finding a cure would be impossible, but come on! I feel like I’m dizzy underwater and can’t taste anything except my own mucous and it smells like burning. Mmmmmmm
So that’s that!
Anyway, this weekend I went to a HUGE kid and baby consignment sale called Just Between Friends, with my friend who also has a son only a little bit older than Lachlan. I was stalking their facebook page to see the videos the owner was posting of the merchandise they were getting in for days, I was so excited to go. We had our guys watch the kids so we could shop alone.
We went last year when I was 2 months pregnant and had no idea if I was having a boy or a girl. So this time I had fun focusing on all the boy stuff. A lot of the gear was gone by the time we got there, but I bought a bunch of rompers and shorts for summer for like, $3 or less each.
Unfortunately, a lot of the items there were way overpriced for being used. I think since the sale is becoming more and more popular and well known, more and more moms are purposely buying new clearance clothes and products elsewhere only to mark them up at this sale. I mean, I get it, we could all use some extra money, but there’s just something slimy about doing that. I saw stained outfits being sold for almost the same price as one brand new. Not cool. We even saw a hat that had an original price tag of $2.99 but the price for the consignment sale was listed at $4! At least remove the proof of the markup before you plan on ripping some sucker off, dork!
Lots of people were complaining on JBF’s facebook page about the pricing, so maybe the next sale will have stricter rules on what can be sold. Either way, I had fun. There’s another sale in September (I think) that I’d like to volunteer for. That way I can get in to shop before the public does and find the best things.
